When I learned that we were moving to Texas one of the first things I got excited about was a potential trip to Marfa. I want to go to Marfa for so many reasons; the lights, the arty stuff, to experience the West Texas feeling...but mostly I'd like to stay at El Cosmico.
At El Cosmico you can stay in tents, a yurt, a teepee or one of many refurbished vintage trailers.
Yes, please.
Maybe someday...

that tent is AWESOME!

GO TO MARFA. I didn't stay at El Cosmico, I stayed at the Thunderbird back in April (but would love to check out El Cosmico!). It was fab. West Texas is crazy. Def go check out the Marfa lights. I'll tell you more later. :) A fun roadtrip.

Marfa is on my top ten list of places to visit! I'm a West Texas girl, but not far West Texas, and just love the feel of the land.

Going to Marfa was one of the best trips I've ever taken. In my entire life. Twice. We went twice 'cause it was so good. El Cosmico was just a billboard when we were there years and years ago. We stayed at the Thunderbird, too, which was then owned by the same people who run the Hotel San Jose in your lovely city. You can't go wrong either way, I'd say. When you are able to get there, I'd also visit Alpine and Fort Davis (if you need to sleep in one of 'em, the lodge at the state park at Fort Davis is great). Bring lots and lots of film, and lots of good reading. Life passes slowly there. Oh, I'm envious that you're so close!

and if you find yourself in se arizona you'll want to check out the shady dell rv park in bisbee. we stayed in a 1954 crown trailer - everything lovingly period. had dinner in the valentine diner (also a trailer). lots of fun, abby. not so much of the "cool" of marfa, but a great destination nevertheless.

I've been dreaming of this trip for a while, too. Austin and Marfa. That's where I'd love to visit in TX.

my boyfriend and i went to marfa in August to celebrate my birthday! it was AMAZING. we stayed at El Cosmico for two nights in the little blue trailer (the Kozy Coach).
i don't know where you're living in Texas, but there's a bus called the Marfa Bullet that takes people from Austin to Marfa for special events. it's only $100 round trip and there's an open bar!
I blogged about our trip here with pictures:

and my boyfriend made a video highlighting out trip here:

All of this really has me thinking about, and viewing, the trees in my life in a different way.
