I'm not saying anything new when I say that it's hard to find kid appropriate music that parents actually like. Of course, Asa is still a baby so we listen to most everything we did before he was born. As he gets older I'd like him to be able to sing along with some tunes and not worry about the lyrical content.
Laura Veirs is a Pacific Northwest based musician and mama. Her cd, "Tumble Bee", is one of the best children's albums I've heard. It features old classic tunes and some hidden gems. You can purchase it here or even download it direct right here.
There's a pretty awesome interview with Veirs about her process and kid's music in general right here.
What are your favorite kid albums?
P.S. there are also beautiful coloring pages to download featuring Carson Ellis' artwork here
yes! we love laura veirs and gave our nephews this album for christmas last year. another good one is haley bonar's "sing with me" (she's an mpls local). so good.

I actually have a lot of kids' music that I adore! My most acquisition is Rockin' the Fiddle -- SO great! http://jthkids.com/
And Natalie Merchant's Leave Your Sleep is one of the most fantastical glorious pretty things I've ever come across: http://www.nataliemerchant.com/p/leave-your-sleep
I really like Laura Veirs and keep meaning to check out Tumble Bee. Thanks for the reminder!

Have you discovered Elizabeth Mitchell? She's fantastic. I'll probably continue to listen to her albums even once my daughter is grown. :)

on pandora we often like to listen to a "children's folk" station that plays lots of elizabeth mitchell, woody guthrie, keira willey, pete seeger... if nothing else, it's a nice place to pick and choose some new favorites.

Yes to Elizabeth Mitchell. My kids generally listen to what we listen to, but one of my faves that even I enjoy is Renee & Jeremy. They have a few videos on youtube that are really nice. Look for their song, Night Mantra. It's sweet. And for fun, not in the lullaby category, Gustafer Yellowgold. So fun!

Barenaked ladies have a great kids cd "Snack time"- we have worn it out, so it's good to have some new leads!
