(Good Morning, friends! Today is the second post of a new little series that I hope to have each week here on the blog: a little slice of life. I try to share the good little bits about everyday life here on my blog-and there are so many of you out there who do the same. I thought it would be nice to celebrate that. I'm happy to introduce Tara as my second guest in this series. Tara is a mama, wife, writer, and photographer from New York. You can read about her other adventures at her blog, public::bookstore. Hope you enjoy!)
*late summer lunch.*
on a friday, at the end of august,
a friend came to lunch.
she brought flowers from her garden
in a large italian pitcher.
i set the table out back in the yard,
for three.
we had homemade bread,
still warm and soft.
lentil salad with feta,
beet salad with walnuts and blue cheese.
cheeses from the farmers market
and slices of prosciutto.
melon and raspberries,
iced tea,
and wine,
and chocolate chip cookies.
and it was lovely.
::
but lovelier still,
the loveliest thing of all,
was to talk,
and find the connection
between my experiences
and hers.
to ask
and be asked
the question-
the one question
about each of us,
whatever it may be-
that no one else asks,
but that we long to be asked.
oh! we want to be asked.
for we want to answer,
need to answer.
for the answer
once spoken,
has not nearly the weight
nor the sharp edges
that it has
when you carry it
around
inside of you,
unasked.
