that little cafe

The little red bike cafe is surely a feast for the belly and for the eyes.

The coffee is to die for, the pastry case is a total work of art and the sandwiches-well, I am prepared to admit they may be the best breakfast sandwiches I have ever devoured.

Plus, the place is just super cute-even the bathroom is decorated very neatly with polaroids and bright turquoise.

Can I say it is the best little cafe in town? Well, maybe. Yep, I am pretty sure it is amazing.

I have to give a big thanks to Nancy, a coworker of mine who has been telling me of this cafe's amazingness for a while now. Thanks, Nancy.

my little place

It may sound strange but I am an extremely private person when it comes to my home.

I suffer from "it will never be clean enough or pretty enough or perfect enough..." syndrome.

Well, I am trying to fight that.

I want my home to be an open and comfortable place.

I want it to be a place where friends feel welcome.

Most importantly, I want it to be a place where James and I can be free to be ourselves.

It is slowly coming along.

an afternoon at the ace

I took these photos a little while ago while having coffee with some friends at the Ace Hotel.

I have a sort of love/hate relationship with the Ace-sometimes I feel it is way over priced and trendy for what it actually is, and other times I let go of my inner snobbery for trendiness and just love it.

I must say, the Ace does nail that sort of style that I like to call "masculine vintage"- a mixture of vintage pieces and a certain color palette that pleases males and is far from "shabby chic".

I'd like to emulate that style in our bedroom. Poor James has very kindly not said a word about our bright pink vintage hamper with roses all over it, or our frilly blankets, or the mish mash of other overly feminine obnoxious knick knacks that plaster our room. He's a modern man that one-but I'd like have a room that feels more like us and less like the nineteen year old me.

I'm thinking we can make it happen. Any suggestions on where I can look for some inspiration?

Hello Everyone!

I hope you all had a lovely Spring Break, we were in full Spring Cleaning mode at my house.
It was crazy and fun and now our place feels like home again. Thanks, Lindee-we couldn't have done it all with out you :)

You'll have to excuse these less than exciting photos, they were taken with my cheap point and shoot digi camera, of course there will be film shots to come.

I'm a few hours early but oh well....

Smell

-that overpowering smell of glass cleaner (we were cleaning all those windows)

-a delicious rosemary smell wafting from my rosemary fries and rosemary chicken sandwich

-huge piles of papers and junk, that slowly disappeared as the week went on

-the sunlight through our cheery new curtains

-the vibrant colors of my knitting needle collection

-our friend Jesse's art finally on display

-ikea cinnamon rolls (not the best for you, but who cares)

looking up

I was reading through all of the lovely comments on my road trip post and I started to realize just how thankful I am for each and everyone of you that come and read and comment and leave your positive energy with me here in this space. I am lucky to have you-thanks!

I was also thinking about how lucky I am to live here in Portland, and how much of it I have yet to explore! I'm thinking our road trip maybe be just in and around Portland....sound crazy? We'll see.

I have a couple of lovely link today, Studio Violet Shop is having a sale. I love these journals so much and they make great gifts. At that price, they are practically a steal! I also love this letterpress print.

I must get a move on, more soon!

Oh-and yes, Five Senses Friday will hopefully be a regular thing around here!

busy, busy

Usually Sunday + Monday are my catch up days, but this weekend I ended up working both at my "real job" and packing orders up for me shop. If I owe you an email, I assure you I am slowly making my way to answering them all!

Friday I was lucky enough to tag along with the talented Tricia and photograph this meal she presented as part of her thesis. More photo soon!

I must rush on over to that "real job"....oh wait!

road trip!

(Thank you all for participating on Friday! You are awesome. I plan on visiting each and every one of your blogs...)

I've been on a lot of road trips in my life. I've been to the beach, the mountains, the desert, the city, the middle of our country, all around other countries. I am lucky. I've seen a lot of great things.

    Now the funny thing is-I do not drive. There are a number of reasons why I'm 26 years old and don't drive but it is what it is. And then there's James, who does have a license but sold his truck three years ago, when he went back to school. So road trips and us-well, they don't really happen all that often anymore.

     Now enter my sister. She is so sweet, she's going to loan us her car for a bit in April, and James and I are going to take a (mini) road trip! We only have a couple of days, but it will be great, right?
We've lived in Portland over four years, but truth be told, we haven't explored that much of Oregon. We've been to Hood River a dozen times, once to Astoria, once to Bend, once to Cannon Beach. We'd like to go somewhere neat, not necessarily a tourist destination, but somewhere with someone quirky to see and/or do. I'm thinking Pendelton or....any ideas for us?
