spoons, spoons, spoons

Spoontogether
Awhile back, spoons were everywhere. Here, here,  here, here,  and here  are some favorites. But really, how can spoons be just a trend, right? They are always amazing.
When I was little, wooden spoons scared me. My Moms were smooth, burnt a bit on the handle and absolutely perfect. How I wish I had them now. But there was always that threat-the minute we were bad it was-
"Don't make me get the wooden spoon!"
Not that I was ever actually spanked with one, but that sentence was enough to scare me straight!
The photos above are from an ebay user and you can view this sale here.  I'm not in a position to buy them-but if I was-I'd be bidding.

This lot above went for $70! It's from this seller who has other neat things.
Happy Hunting!

I can totally relate to the mom, wooden spoon thing...I had forgotten all about that.

is that a citrus reamer on the bottom? it scares me. Somehow it seems a little Middle Ages...

when i was little, my best friend was vita (she was italian). i used to have a lot of sleepovers at her house. when her mom, daria, had enough, she used to say: "i'm gonna slap you with a wet noodle!" it was mostly meant for vita - but, it was enough to send both of us running out of any room!
hmmm... wooden spoon or wet noodle? either way, it's no good!
:)

We always got the wooden spoon threat, that is, until the time my mom was trying to catch me around the table and couldn't. Apparently at sixteen I had become too fast for her:)

She totally used that wet noodle threat too!

Oh my Mother was big on the old wooden spoon threat too! Smiles.

Love the spoons, too. I've always wanted to have a giant spoon to mount on the wall in the kitchen. Hmm. Maybe I should see if I can find any on eBay ...

The pointy thing on the bottom is the manual half of a china cap food mill. The china cap looks like a conical strainer. You use the pointy wooden thing to mash stuff through the strainer, by swirling the wooden thing around the china cap. Like tomatoes or fruit for jam or what have you. The pulp goes through and the skin stays in the strainer.

nice abby.... :)

Thank you for straightening that out for me, Patrick. That makes it quite charming.

thanks for the links!!

i also like the wooden clothespins the ebay seller is listing =)

how lovely! i love wooden spoons. my mom was into those "however many things about me" e-mails for awhile and in answer to the question "what is your favorite kitchen utensil?" she wrote "a well-used wooden spoon" and I couldn't agree more.

thankfully, I wasn't ever threatened with them (hairbrushes, though, are a different story, though like you the threat alone was enough to make the unorthodox use of the brush unnecessary).

those are *perfect* wooden spoons, and I had to laugh at the age old reference to getting out the wooden spoon. We've all heard it, right? xo

I was threaten with the wooden spoon too, but it was also a treat to lick it--what an odd relationship with an utensil.

Funny isn't it, that spoons can be so beautiful? They're so ordinary, but in their simplicity they look great, especially together. I also really like this wooden tableware, you can still find a lot of it in thriftstores.

Cool find! My measly collection (2-3) isn't very glamorous. :(

what wonderful pictures. i still have my mom's wooden spoons that i grabbed before leaving for college. they've almost made it to the trash a few times but somehow they find their way back to the drawer.

apparently I'm going to be the only one who admits to actually getting spanked with the wooden spoons. Alot. My mom finally had to switch to a different utensils as she was breaking too many spoons.

oooh great find!! thank you so much. xoxo

Ieee, wooden spoons still give me goose bumps! Especially when they're wet!
