Beautiful Film Week Begins
(Sorry to begin this a day late. Sunday night I became sick with the worst flu I've had in years. I slept almost all day yesterday, and am still recovering today. So it's gonna be short and sweet. Sorry for the delay!)
The Lives of Others is the most recent beautiful film I've seen. The acting, the set, the story, the writing, the cinematography-everything is absolutely stunning.
O heard such great things about it, yet I hesitated to see it. I usually don't care for long drawn out dramas. But-this-this one is different. The story is especially captivating to me when I think about spying that goes on here.
I highly recommend downloading the press kit on the film's site after you have viewed the film. It has some great information, especially about the director. It took him less than three hours to write the first script and then three years of working on it to be finished. He also talks about his extensive research and gives horrifying examples of artists terrorized by the Stasi.
On a less dramatic note, I really like the way two apartments are decorated in the film. The colors and moods are simply gorgeous. Really, watch this movie!
Sorry for such a short post-will post more soon! Thanks for playing! Here are some others who are playing along:

I just read about your beautiful film week on Susan's blog (sulu design), and it's a fabulous idea. Can I join? Coincidentally (and kind of uncannily), I just watched The Lives of Others last night and wrote about it on my side blog before I saw your post here, which I agree with 100%. You chose some excellent stills to illustrate the gorgeous cinematography in this movie.

get well soon abby! so sorry to hear the flu got to you.
such a beautiful movie you chose! sadly, the actor ulrich mühe, who plays the spy and is on the top picture died only a couple of weeks after the film was awarded with the oscar. he was one of the best german actors around. also, i just love seeing martina gedeck.

Hi!
I come over from Shari. Sorry if I rant a bit, but this movie gives me a shive, working out so well what has been daily life for so many people in the GDR. So beautiful, how they worked out the human nature behind everybody!!
Ulrich Mühe, the actor died soon after the movie was finished.
Great idea, your beautiful film week!
