feel like going home

Packing_2

Well, I am going back to my home town .
I know you all must be very *jealous*.
After all, they just built the new adventure park (no, that commercial is new, not from 1989).
Or I can visit this beautiful place .
Too bad I missed the annual Christmas Parade complete with a low rider cop car!

Larry Clark even made a movie about its teenagers.

Okay, I will stop making fun. I'm going to see family and it will be hilarious. Happy New Year!

Ours is continuing as today is James' birthday.
Next week, we leave for California, but before I go I wanted to propose something.
I propose "Beautiful Film Week" to be held starting January 14, 2008.
It will be like beautiful book week except with your favorite movies. Leave a comment to let me know if you're in!
I wish you all a very happy new year and thank you for reading!

Well, time-my friends-is not on my side. Working retail at Christmas just makes those days fly on by! If you were owed a Christmas card, well, they're written and ready but bound to be happy new year's cards instead. Oh well....

James fixed my computer (hurrah!). Thanks, dude. Totally owe ya one...

Gotta rush off to work-but here is a secret wish list that will never happen but may be fun to look at:

A Weekend Full of Inspiration

Coloredpapers

I never really "got into" Charles and Ray Eames  much. Sure, I loved their furniture and fabrics-but to be honest, I never knew a whole lot about them. I was six when Ray died, and not yet born when Charles passed and I think it was just one of those things that got skipped over. Like the whole Iran-Contra thing, too little to understand and by the time I was old enough, no one wanted to talk about it....
But I am kind of glad about it, because now I'm discovering how absolutely amazing the were! A married artistic team who dabbled in toy making and film-how exciting! This weekend I started watching this set which I got on Netflix.
The first disc contained a film called 901: After 45 Years of Working. It documents the Eames' workspace after the death of Ray. It is so much more than beautiful. If you have ever enjoyed looking at photos of artists' studios or the way people work-you will adore this film. I took some shots of the parts that most inspired me.

Cupboards

This is a shot in the film of their dishes, I love cupboard shots. This cupboard looks eerily similar to my own. I also have blue+white dishes with splashes of red thrown in for good measure. Here are some cupboard shots from flickr

Eastereggs

This is a shot of some ceramic objects that were labeled "easter eggs 1974". I love the colors. More egg shots I like:

Heart

This is something I think was found in Ray's office. Beautiful! When I was a teen, I used to not like the way hearts look.I like them a lot now...

After work last night, James met me and we walked to a little local restaurant. Cat Power was playing, the food was cheap and filling and right outside was a funny little lot with a handful of Christmas trees. A charming, yet somewhat awkward, hand painted sign informed us that all trees were $10 and well, you really can't beat that, right? It was one of those moments where you kick yourself for not having your camera. But such is life.
I carried our bags and James lugged the portly little Doug Fir home. This our first real tree! After four years of marriage it seems about time. White lights and a few small red bulbs are all we have, but I like it. Just right I think.

Now, on to calendars. Any suggestions?
I really love this one.
This tiny one is adorable, but I'd need another one...
These Japanese ones are more than amazing-but not sure if I want to deal with waiting long...
Maybe I should make one?
Yes, good weekend project.
Cheers y'all!

P .S. It's snowing here!
