I never really "got into" Charles and Ray Eames much. Sure, I loved their furniture and fabrics-but to be honest, I never knew a whole lot about them. I was six when Ray died, and not yet born when Charles passed and I think it was just one of those things that got skipped over. Like the whole Iran-Contra thing, too little to understand and by the time I was old enough, no one wanted to talk about it....
But I am kind of glad about it, because now I'm discovering how absolutely amazing the were! A married artistic team who dabbled in toy making and film-how exciting! This weekend I started watching this set which I got on Netflix.
The first disc contained a film called 901: After 45 Years of Working. It documents the Eames' workspace after the death of Ray. It is so much more than beautiful. If you have ever enjoyed looking at photos of artists' studios or the way people work-you will adore this film. I took some shots of the parts that most inspired me.
This is a shot in the film of their dishes, I love cupboard shots. This cupboard looks eerily similar to my own. I also have blue+white dishes with splashes of red thrown in for good measure. Here are some cupboard shots from flickr

This is a shot of some ceramic objects that were labeled "easter eggs 1974". I love the colors. More egg shots I like:

This is something I think was found in Ray's office. Beautiful! When I was a teen, I used to not like the way hearts look.I like them a lot now...
