berries the color of the sun

Abby_summeractivity

Last week we hiked with friends into the woods. We followed a creek until we came to a glorious little waterfall.

Along the way I found some salmon berries. I felt like I was in a fairytale. I grew up around farms, where berries grew in rows. I love finding food in the wild.

This shot of wild strawberries really looks wonderful.

I hope you are enjoying the fruits of summer.

Back soon!

I've been rereading portions of Susan Sontag's On Photography-a part that seems to resonate with me is one that talks about photography filling a person's need to constantly be working.

I think I definitely fall into that category.

Probably many of you reading this fall into that category, too.

But I don't think that's such a bad way to manifest that sort of behavior. I feel like I had a pretty lax spring and this summer I'm not letting any opportunity pass me up if I can help it.

I've also been reading about early American entrepreneurs and have become quite smitten with some of them. Understanding what drives people to be who they are fascinates me....

now I am rambling.

Okay, I'm working on some special collaborations with Cori tonight-I can't wait to show you them! They will be unveiled at the summer social sale here in Portland...but guess what?  We have a special treat of an "online summer social" of sorts so stay tuned for that!

Happy Wednesday! (gees it's Wednesday already?)

This year was a great celebration.

I felt happy to be in this country, to be an American.

Lately James and I have been watching the American Experience series again. They're nice and calm-great to wind down with before bed.

We are in the middle of one about Chicago. What an interesting, purely American city.

I've never been. Some day I hope to go.

Happy day to you.

Seen anything interesting lately?

Life is full at the moment.

Plans are being made, things being finished, people being visited, food being cooked and then eaten.

I imagine your summer is similar...

I feel like I have everything and nothing to say.

Well, I'll just leave you with these photos of some fun days and write again soon.

oh!

and one more thing.

Have you heard of Pietopia? It's amazing...

Menposter

I've been a big fan of Claire's work for awhile.

This poster of her's is so beautiful and made a great gift for a friend of mine. I can't tell you how much I love the idea of a seasonal, perpetual calender. I'm always the one a month behind on my calendars so these are just right for me. Pretty brilliant as far as I'm concerned, cute too...

Claire has a wonderful blog and her etsy shop is full of goodness right now. Seeing as how the current economy isn't the best we organized a trade. I couldn't be more happy.

Claire sent me this gorgeous poster of wildflowers and as a native Californian, it feels special.

Go check out her work, her poster portfolio is pretty rad.

Happy Friday, and thank you Claire!

Very close to home there's a sort of strange happening. What was, when we moved here, a somewhat quiet corner has now become a restaurant row of sorts-featuring all kinds of yummy foods and good style to boot.

If you are coming to the Summer Social sale (which is going to be held at my home in NE Portland) you may want to check this block out.  Or if you are able to visit Portland anytime, these places are all delicious and all right next to each other...

DOC (featured in the top photo)- a cozy uber cute Italian place serving fresh, local ingredients. I've written about it before, and had a couple of lovely meals there.

Fats (featured in the bottom photo)-a gastro pub of sorts. Haven't been to this one yet, but the decor looks fab and the food sounds delicious

Authentica-the most delicious Mexican food I've eaten in Portland. This is a nicer, sit down place featuring delicious sauces and the best tacos around. Get the specials-always good...

Yakuza- Japanese bar food in a hip setting. Yummy sushi and good burgers, in the summertime this place opens up the walls and it's like eating outside.

Beast-fabled prix-fixe menu of indulgent foods in a gorgeous setting. I often walk by here and peek in the windows, wishing my kitchen/dining are will look half as good someday.

Now I am starving.....

Happy Thursday to you.

Have you seen this blog?

That girl is always so busy making stuff. And she's making really beautiful stuff.

I quite like it.

She also does displays for Anthropologie and while I'm on the fence about that company in general, her displays are quite magical.

This post is my favorite.

Hey there. I promise after this I will be back to regular fun non shop posts. But some of you were asking and I just wanted to let you all know that I am now going to be offering prints of my Polaroids for sale in my photo shop. You can view all of the current ones here.

If you are interested in a custom one, here's a link to my polaroids on flickr-browse them and shoot me an email at abbytrysagain@yahoodotcom if you'd like.

All right, I promise-that's enough shop talk for awhile.

Thank you again to all of you who are helping me go to Second Storie, you rule!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend.

We had a nice holiday and I feel energized for the week to come. Thanks to those of you who placed orders. Getting to Second Storie Indie Market is becoming a reality! (Read more about it here.)

Better get to work, today I'm picking up tons of Polaroid enlargements and I can't wait to share them with you. See my first ones over here.

Happy Monday!

happy day

Thankyou

Thanks to all of you who donated and bought Second Storie Sets after my post yesterday!

I reached my halfway point with what I needed to earn and I feel truly blessed and grateful.

(If you are wondering what I am talking about read here.)

There are still some available if you are interested.

I feel a burst of joy at the prospect that I may just be able to keep on doing all of this after all. Some days blogging seems crazy to me; the amount of time and effort it takes can be a lot. But days like yesterday remind me of why I do this in the first place-I am so lucky and thankful to be able to share my thoughts and images with an audience who enjoys them. THANK YOU!

Okay-done gushing for now.

I hope those of you in the States have a fun and happy holiday! Good weekend to the rest of you around the globe...

check this!
